Shopping for Pride in Concord

View book lists with characters of various LGBTQIA+ identities at gibsonsbookstore.com/LGBTQ-Books.

It’s June, which means it’s a great time to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community! Sometimes a thoughtful card or gift can be the perfect way to recognize Pride Month with friends, family and chosen family. We’ve hand-picked some local shops that feature LGBTQIA+ themed items in a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere. Make sure you check out these stores and let them know you heard about their products on this blog.

Penumbra

Penumbra is owned by Alison and Alyssa—two wives who are proud to create a safe space in their store and recommend the “plants we can’t kill” aesthetic. Along with gorgeous plants, air plants, cactuses and a variety of fun and funky planters, you’ll find jewelry, rainbow stickers, pronouns pins and much more in the sunny storefront on North State Street in Concord.

Bona Fide helps educate, inspire and support people on their journey to a zero-waste lifestyle. Besides offering practical eco-friendly items and a refill station, the store on Main Street features cute gifts and many Pride-themed items. We love their LGBTQIA+ earrings and rainbow door mat!

Gibson’s Bookstore

During June, Gibson’s Bookstore features multiple Pride-themed book displays. We love the Protect Trans Kids display in the children’s section and Queer Happily Ever Afters display in the adult section (pictured here). Pride bookmarks are also available at the registers—for free! Pick one up to find book recommendations with LGBTQIA+ characters that are often not represented in literature. For example, find books featuring LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC people, books featuring asexual people, YA books featuring Intersex people, picture books featuring LGBTQIA+ people and much more! You can also ask the friendly booksellers for specific recommendations. And check out Gibson’s website or The Laydown podcast for more books featuring diverse characters!
