Experience Concord's past and present at Endicott Furniture

Blog by Endicott Furniture Company

Spring Saturdays in Concord are the best! Start at the Farmers Market and Arts Market, grab a latte at one of the many coffee shops (we are quite fond of Bean and Bakery), then stroll the street, wandering in and out of the many shops. Whether you're buying chocolates at Granite State Candy Shoppe, or discovering a new artist at Pitchfork Records, you’re experiencing the downtown Concord we love. When you find yourself in front of Endicott Furniture you’ll see two very large windows artfully styled with a dining set or living room furniture that captures the bright and colorful start of spring. If you step into the store behind those two windows, you will enter a labyrinth of rooms on multiple floors.

In 1925 Hyman Reingold started a furniture store in the basement of the Endicott Hotel. In 1940 Hyman moved the store to its current location at 12 South Main Street, and over the years the buildings have been renovated to provide us with over twenty thousand square feet of furniture display area, spread out over nine showrooms. Wind your way through various vignettes styled with a collection of furniture ranging from traditional upholstery to contemporary bamboo. The store is full of little bits of history everywhere you look, including the newly restored register that was purchased second-hand at an auction in 1925.

Over the years, the business has been handed down through four generations and is currently run by Eric Reingold. Eric attended college in Virginia, traveled for a bit, then returned to Concord where he learned the business and became very active in the community working with the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce and Concord Young Professionals Network (CYPN). While Eric is very professional around the store, you can find him rocking out with six different bands at venues all over the city! (Penuche’s and Bank of NH Stage are frequent stomps.)

Being a family-owned business, Eric and his sister Lynn were raised visiting the store where they would draw pictures in the leather room, help with inventory, and even do jobs like mowing the lawn at the warehouse. Mary, the business manager, has been with the company for almost 40 years and has had her boys, and now grandchildren in the store where they played epic games of hide and seek. Being a small business allows us to have a small staff that is very much a family; while some of our family has retired over the years we have found some newer family members that fit right in.

We pride ourselves in selling top-quality furniture made in the USA by the best manufacturers—most of which are special-order and highly customizable. The mattresses we sell are made right here in New England! North Carolina has long been a center of upholstered furniture manufacturers, and we sell several of them. We have beautifully crafted wood furniture made in NH and VT, as well as timeless craftsmanship from an Amish company in Ohio. We even carry items from local artisans, including wooden home decor from C&C Wood Studio in Goffstown and spa products from Wicked Accents in Loudon.

We are already preparing for an epic centennial celebration that will last the whole year. There are very few businesses on Main Street that have surpassed 100 years. We are so excited to join the ranks with United Shoe Repair (1909) and Gibson's Bookstore (1898), Granite State Candy will join the ranks in 2027.  We plan to share our history and the evolution of the furniture industry with those in and around Concord.

After making your way through the store, venture out and experience some of the amazing food options Concord has to offer. Whether it’s Somalian food from Batalo’s Kitchen, Italian cuisine from Angelina’s, or some artistic fusion from Revival, there is something for everyone to enjoy! Be sure to check out a show at the Capitol Center for the Arts or enjoy the nightlife at Barley House or some of the other incredible bars or venues along Main Street.
